10 Weird Sports You’ve Never Even Heard Of

Ok, Sports Fans – it’s time to get serious.  This article is going to change the way you think about sports forever. And for those of you who aren’t sports fans? Chances are, you just haven’t found your preferred sport, yet!
No matter where you stand when it comes to sports, it’s time to open your mind and broaden your horizons, because here are 10 Sports You Have NEVER Heard Of!

#1. If you’re a dog lover, you literally have to check out this Dog Dancing video.  Also known as Canine Freestyling, this competition takes place between teams of man and canine, and involves music accompanied by choreographed dance.  You won’t believe the dance moves that dogs are able to learn!


#2. Wife Carrying! Wait, seriously? Yes – turns out there is actually a sport, originating from Finland, in which a man carries his wife through an obstacle course! It almost sounds like this sport could have historical ties to the Finns’ run-ins with the Vikings!


#3. Next up is a sport called Chess Boxing. This sport consists of 11 rounds during which competitors alternative between boxing and – you guessed it – playing chess.  It’s an unexpected sight to see two grown men, dressed for a physical boxing match, calmly sitting across each other playing chess!


#4. This next sport, Cheese Rolling, is location-specific.  It takes placed in the UK and consists of rolling a giant cheese down a hill.  The competitors race after it, and the first one to make it down the treacherous hill wins the cheese.


#5. This one is hard to believe unless you have the opportunity to see it.  Ironists take part in something called Extreme Ironing – the task of pressing clothes — in the most extreme conditions possible.  Ironists have even managed to underwater ironing while wearing full scuba gear!


#6. Maybe you should try your hand at competitive Egg Throwing.  Eggheads from around the world can participate in the annual World Egg Throwing Championship games in England.  There’s even a World Egg Throwing Federation.


#7. Underwater Hockey – it happens and it rocks.  If hockey happens on a field and on ice, why shouldn’t it happen underwater? Participants compete as they push a puck across the bottom of a swimming pool.  It’s been around since the very first World Championship in 1980!



#8. Ouch – how do you feel about contact sports? This one is called Shin Kicking. It originated in England and consists of two people attempting to kick each other in the shins until one of them hits the ground!


#9. Stick Fighting exists – they put on worldwide tournaments for this sport. It consists of two competitors holding sticks and attempting to hit each other…


#10. Ew… you know how some people don’t like to have their feet touched? If so, this sport is not for you. For the rest of you, behold: Toe Wrestling!  This is a sport in which two competitors, with socks and shoes removed, attempt to pin down the others’ foot.
